CASES OF INTEREST AT THE OLD BAILEY ON MONDAY

Court 1 at 10.30am trial of Stephen Whiteley and Ziad Akle, former territory managers for Iraq at energy consultancy Unaoil, along with their co-defendant Paul Bond, former Middle East sales manager at Dutch energy firm SBM. They are accused of bribing officials in Iraq for contracts worth US$800 million to rebuild the country’s oil industry after the fall of Saddam Hussein in 2003.

Court 5 at 10.15am Retrial of Henry Long,18, and two 17 year old youths accused of murdering PC Andrew Harper, who was killed after responding to a suspected burglary.  The 28-year-old newlywed died of multiple injuries when he was dragged for over a mile with his ankles trapped in a strap on a car fleeing from a crime scene.

Court 8 at 10am Plea and trial preparation in the case of Zakaria Yanaouri charged with five counts of possessing material likely to be of use to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism, contrary to Section 58 of the Terrorism Act (2000).

Court 8 at 10am case of six teenagers over the fatal stabbing of 17-year-old student Josiph Beker, who was stabbed outside a KFC in Edgeware Road, central London.

Court 9 at 10am Pre-trial review  in the case of Aman Vyas accused  of raping and killing Michelle Samaraweera in Walthamstow, East London in 2009. He also denies attacking three other women and faces a further seven charges of rape and attempted murder.

Court 9 at 10am Sentence of Safiyya Shaikh, who admitted plotting to blow herself up in a bomb attack on St Paul’s Cathedral. Muslim convert Shaikh went on a reconnaissance trip to scope out the London landmark and a hotel. The 36-year-old, born Michelle Ramsden, was arrested after asking an undercover police officer to supply bombs.

Court 12 at 10.30am Mention  in the case of Mark Brazant, who is accused of stabbing a 36 year old mother from behind as she was pushing her child in a pram in South London. He denies attempted murder.

ntion in the case of Christian Fearon accused of the murder of Leenox Nigel Alcendor,42, in Cricklewood, London NW. The victim was stabbed in the neck.

Court 13 at 10am Plea and trial preparation in the case of James Sinclair accused of murder. Shadika Mohsin Patel, 40, was stabbed repeatedly in the chest in East London in the early hours of Thursday, March 19

Court 16 at 9.30am Mention in the case of Kieran Rifat accused of murder. The body of Ms Kelly Stewart. 41, was found in the grounds of Memorial Community Church, Barking Road, East London on the afternoon of Thursday, March 26

Court 16 at 10am trial of teenager Carlos Velez, who denies murder. David Martinez-Valencia,26, was repeatedly stabbed in a flat in Leyton, East London.
